About Christian Debt Consolidation Services

One of the many features we like on the Christian Debt Consolidation Services website is a small clock that runs a real-time (so to speak) calculation on how many happy clients they have had, how many years they have been in business, how many awards they have won, and how many “success stories” they have. It looks great, and shows you just how much of an impact Christian Debt Consolidation Services have made in this industry.

The Company

There are a lot of companies out there with similar names to Christian Debt Consolidation and this causes confusion. This particular company goes by the name “Christian Debt Consolidation” or “Christian Debt Services”, and is different to the likes of Christian Credit Counseling and Christian Debt Counselors, who we have also reviewed here on DebtReviews.

The Services

Christian Debt Consolidation Services offer debt consolidation and debt settlement. They promise to help you better manage your debts and they also promise that there will be no hidden fees or other nasty surprises. There is a lot to like here, and Christian Debt Consolidation Services will be a big draw for the millions of American Christians who find themselves up to their necks in serious debt.

The Christian Debt Services website also has a number of resources relating to consolidation, refinancing, settlement and more.

The Reviews

There are some mixed reviews out there for Christian Debt Services, but there are not nearly as many reviews (positive or otherwise) on them. Their online presence is pretty weak, to say the least, and Google seems to think we’re looking for one of their similarly named rivals every time we do a search for them.

Christian Debt Services Review

The Bad

Christian Debt Consolidation Services have a BBB page, but they are not accredited and they have not claimed their page. However that seemingly hasn’t stopped them from announcing that they are accredited by the BBB.

According to the page that was created in their name, they have been warned about doing this and have still continued to do it. As far as we can tell these warnings were from a few years ago, potentially as far back as 2003, but while the warning still exists on their BBB page we haven’t actually seen them advertise a BBB accreditation.

Maybe they leaned their lesson, maybe this was a huge misunderstanding. There are multiple companies out there that have similar names, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest that. However, this warning has been on their BBB page for a long time and if there was indeed a mistake then we would expect them to remedy it by contacting the BBB, claiming the page, and making sure the warning was removed.

It seems more likely that they were using the BBB logo, they stopped when they saw the warning posted on their BBB page (after seemingly ignoring warnings sent by email), and they are now distancing themselves from it. This is a bit of a concern, because it’s false advertising no matter how you look at it. But it could simply be a result of the designer getting the wrong end of the stick and making a mistake that the business then paid for.

We also have a few other concerns with Christian Debt Services, not least of which is the fact that they have been around since 2002, but have somehow managed to fly under our radar. And not just our radar, as there is very little information on them anywhere online. If you type their name into Google you’ll get a long list of pages relating to some of their similarly named rivals, and that’s not ideal for a company that is over 15 years old.

Christian Debt Services claim to be able to pay off debts within 3 to 5 years, which is a little more than the average and a lot more than we would like to see. Anything over 2 years runs a high risk of ligation in the debt settlement game, and anything over 4 years is just not acceptable. The fact that they might be extending some programs to 5 years surprises us and also raises a big red flag.

The Good

Christian Debt Services have a good number of resources on their website, from debt calculators that can give you a better idea of how much debt you have, how much it is costing you and how long it will take to pay off, to an expansive FAQ on every aspect of debt. This all comes in handy and it’s always great to see, because it shows debtors that the company are interested in helping them even if they are not paying customers, and that they care as much about keeping them out of debt as they do about getting them debt free in the first place.

Christian Debt Services also have a free consultation that comes with no obligation. They seem pretty proud of this fact, and they have every right to be, but it’s far from uncommon in this industry and it’s something you will see offered by all major debt settlement and debt consolidation companies. In fact, we’d be concerned if they didn’t offer a free consultation.

Christian Debt Services also promise to let you cancel at anytime without any penalties. This is basically the same as a money back guarantee, because debt settlement programs are not allowed to charge any upfront fees. It’s worth noting, however, that if you dropout early then you will lose some valuable time and in that time your risk of litigation will have increased significantly. You may also have larger debts than when you started, as the interest will have continued to grow.

The Bottom Line

There are a few good points here, including the fact that Christian Debt Services have been around for a long time, have a money back guarantee, and have a lot of resources on their website. However, there are too many negatives, including the issue with the BBB and the false advertising claim, and the fact that they can extend the program to an unreasonable 5 years.
